ARISE atmospheric dynamics infrastructure in Europe

The middle and upper atmosphere are affected by planetary and gravity waves which can impact weather. Sudden stratospheric warming events are examples of such large scale disturbances. Information from atmospheric dynamics is then crucial to provide more accurate longer term weather and climate forecasts. The ARISE project integrates complementary instrumentations to provide improved observations of atmospheric dynamics from tropics to Northern European regions for stratosphere-mesosphere resolving climate models. ARISE societal impact also concerns natural hazards monitoring. The EU supports under FP7 more than 70 networks of research infrastructures covering all scientific fields. The aim is to optimise the use of the facilities by providing support to transnational access and to develop joint research activities.
