Whether it be in ensuring the safety of our food, dealing with natural disasters or protecting our environment, European countries have long realised they are better able to protect their citizens when they work together. This is why the European Union has developed policies in areas ranging from energy to climate change or consumer protection. Researchers at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre are addressing every day issues ranging from cybersecurity to tracing GMOs in our food, testing new solar panels, collecting and analysing environmental data or examining seized nuclear materials. They make sure that European policies are based on robust scientific foundations and contribute to a safer life of Europe's citizens.
