‘Water is the driving force of all nature,’ observed the great Leonardo da Vinci. It is also a key consideration for our built environment. However, says HYDRALAB, the actual or potential impact of water — on shorelines, for example, or on edifices — can only be fully understood in the light of its interactions with structures, sediment, environmental elements and ice. The partners in this long-standing initiative are dedicating the fourth phase of their integrating action to the analysis of these intricate processes. The EU supports under FP7 more than 70 networks of research infrastructures covering all scientific fields. The aim is to optimise the use of the facilities by providing support to transnational access and to develop joint research activities.
